Accessibility statement

DELA values digital accessibility and aims to ensure that everyone is able to use its online services. In doing so, DELA wants to comply with European accessibility standards as laid down in the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and the WCAG guidelines.

1. This accessibility statement applies to:

https://www.dela.be/en/mortuary-brussels-airport

2. Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 level AA due to the non-conformities below (see point 4).

A recent independent audit of our DELA undertakers’ website was conducted. The findings of these audits constitute the starting point for further improvements.

You can access the audit reports here: Undertakers DELA

3. Temporary exemption: disproportionate burden

We are currently temporarily invoking the exemption for disproportionate burden, for the following reasons:

  • The audit results must first be further analysed by our external development partners.
  • Based on this, a realistic roadmap will be drawn up for short- and long-term adjustments.
  • Adjustments require additional resources and time, which must first be structurally integrated into our planning.

Looking ahead
The roadmap for improvements of our funeral home websites will be integrated into our multi-year planning, allowing us to comply with accessibility requirements in a phased and substantiated way.

4. Non-accessible content

  • Buttons and links containing an image do not always have a text alternative for the image.
  • Some other images do not have a text alternative or have an incorrect text alternative.
  • Not every form field has a label that is correctly linked to the field.
  • PDF documents do not always contain the necessary tags to make them accessible to screen readers.
  • Input fields that request information from the user do not always help users to enter the information automatically.
  • Text sometimes lacks sufficient contrast with the background.
  • Some interactive elements cannot be operated using the keyboard.
  • Most pages do not have a link at the top of the page that jumps directly to the main content.
  • PDF files do not always have a document title that can be displayed in the title bar of PDF reading software.
  • Webpages do not always have a sufficiently descriptive page title.
  • When navigating with the keyboard, the keyboard focus sometimes jumps to invisible elements or non-interactive elements.
  • Some links do not have a link text.
  • When navigating with the keyboard, the indicator showing which element has the keyboard focus is not always sufficiently visible.
  • The buttons of one of the carousels are too small on a computer screen.
  • Compulsory form fields do not always have a label indicating the field is compulsory.
  • Buttons that open other content (e.g. a menu or accordion section) are not always announced as expandable/collapsible buttons.
  • Some error messages and status notifications are not automatically announced by screen readers.

7. Our approach to digital accessibility

In 2025, DELA will draw up a detailed accessibility roadmap, based on audit results and analysis by internal teams and external partners. This roadmap will be aligned with our multi-year budget and needs to be ready by the end of 2025 for execution from 2026. At the same time, we will ensure that all new digital developments are built to be fully accessible in accordance with the applicable standards (WCAG). The roadmap will be periodically evaluated and our accessibility statement updated as needed.

The audit was conducted on the Dutch-language pages of www.dela.be/nl/uitvaartzorg-hofmans. It served as the basis for the other funeral home websites that are copies of one another. This means differences may exist compared to the English-language version. The English accessibility statement is a translation of the Dutch version.

This statement was drawn up on 10 June 2025.
